Decisions on the Independent Hearing Panel’s recommendations for Variation 3 Enabling Housing Supply were made by Council on 16 October 2024.  The decision is to accept all but two recommendations.   

The rejected recommendations relate to two matters that are subject to appeals to the Proposed District Plan.  The matters are: 

  1. The rezoning of 46 Jackson Street, Ngaaruawaahia  to MRZ2 
  2. The rezoning of the SASM on 5837 Great South Road, Ngaaruawaahia  to MRZ2 and the associated QM 

The rejected recommendations will be sent to the Minister for Resource Management Reform for decisions to be made.  Until decisions are made, the provisions related to these two sites have no legal effect.   

The decisions were notified on 22 October 2024.  The provisions will be incorporated into the Waikato District Council e-Plan and maps and will be available on 30 October 2024 and will be operative from that date.  The operative provisions will be identified in ‘blue highlight’.
