Port Waikato Wellbeing fund

Bouncing back after Cyclone Gabrielle can be a real struggle for communities that were hit hard by such damage and disruption.

To help support local initiatives that can help bring people together and improve community wellbeing,  Waikato District Council has received a grant of $26,377 from the Ministry of Social Development.

About the fund:

  • The Mental Wellbeing Fund is being administered by the Rural-Port Waikato Community Board, who will review submissions and decide how the money will be distributed
  • The funds will go to existing community organisations planning events or activities that can help enhance the resilience of individuals, whaanau and our communities in the Port Waikato and rural Port Waikato area
  • Any activities receiving funding must be completed and reported back to Waikato District Council via the community board by 30 June 2024
  • Applications can be made through our community funding application form online here
  • You may be asked to present your idea to the Board in support of your application.

After an event like Cyclone Gabrielle, future resilience comes through a community's ability to learn from its experiences, grow stronger, and emerge from challenges even better than before.

Community groups developing activities that bring people together and help build community connections can apply for the fund.

Applications are assessed at each Rural-Port Waikato Community Board meeting, so groups are encouraged to get applications in quickly for the early February meeting.
