Waikato councils, supported by Waikato LASS (Local Authority Shared Services), has launched the Waikato Data Portal as a public platform to share our data.
We believe that knowledge is power and that by working together to make our data free and open it will promote progress, unlock innovation, and by its creative use, result in economic value for our region.
The Waikato Data Portal will allow external agencies and members of the public easy access to council’s open datasets which can be searched, reviewed and downloaded in a variety of formats.
Go to the Waikato Data Portal
The community will benefit from open data as Waikato councils work together to provide valuable information to all. The data on the portal will be constantly evolving as each Council continues to update, add and improve the information available.
We encourage users to engage with us and provide feedback to help shape the data that available to you. Visit the Waikato LASS homepage
to find our contact information and interact with us.
A public information session for the Waikato district will be held on Wednesday 19 June from 3pm-7pm at the Tuakau Hall supper room on George St. An introduction and a demonstration of the Portal will be held at 3:30pm and 5:45pm. Staff will be available
for drop-in sessions between the formal presentations.
The work within the Waikato aligns with the Open Government Data Programme. This programme is a cross-government plan to make government data available for re-use. There is a wealth of background information about open data and the programme available from the data.govt.nz/open-data website.
Later this year we anticipate that the data from our portal will also be available from data.govt.nz alongside other national government datasets. Our site will continue to operate and be available as the first port of call for local government data and contacts in the Waikato.
