Many wastes can be diverted away from landfill. Some items can be taken to the local resource recovery centre in Raglan, other can be dropped off at transfer stations, charity or Op shops, pop ups or product stewardship initiatives.

Find out here what you can do with hazardous waste, chemical waste, green waste, furniture, e-waste, construction and demolition waste.

If you have an item to dispose of that doesn't appear in the below list please contact your local Transfer station.

Unfortunately none of the transfer stations within our district accept asbestos.

Nickel cadmium (NiCd), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), lithium ion (Li-ion) and other batteries which contain hazardous metals.

Look for a battery recycling scheme at large retailers, or e-waste collection events.

98% of a car or truck battery can be reclaimed through recycling. Car battery stockists are often keen to accept these free of charge.  Century Batteries is one, so 0800 93 93 93 to find your nearest Battery Recycling Centre.

Liquid chemicals need specialised containment and treatment.

Whiteware, TV's, computers, phones, laptop computers and all cables, tablets, notebooks and palmtops, computer monitors and parts (e.g. internal hard drives and CD drives), computer peripherals and accessories (e.g. mice, keyboards, web cameras, USBs and modems), printers, faxes, scanners and multi-functional devices, cameras and video cameras.

Unfortunately none of the transfer stations within our district accept this type of e-waste.

Accepted: Huntly Transfer Station (TV's only, as rubbish not as recycling), Xtreme Zero Waste Resource Recovery Centre (Raglan). Charges my apply to responsibly recycle e-waste.  

Mobile phones can be recycled through remobile.org.nz

Or look online and find e-waste recycling in-store take back or an e-waste collection event.

Fluorescent light bulbs and tubes can be recycled commercially by Interwaste, who can provide specialty bins for this purpose.

Most paint shops take their own branded paint & tins back for free for recycling, reuse or disposal in an environmentally friendly manner.  A small charge applies to other branded products to help offset the costs.

Agrecovery is the rural waste recycler across Aotearoa.
