Walking your dog

Hikoi i too kurii

Dogs must be on-lead in all public areas unless you are in a designated off-leash dog exercise area.

There are many off-leash dog exercise areas in the Waikato district, including beaches, where dogs may be exercised off-lead if they are under continuous control and all faeces are removed.

Across the district, dogs are not allowed on playgrounds, skateparks and sport field surfaces. There are also some other ‘no-go’ areas where you can’t take your dog at all listed, such as some town centres or reserves.

For more information, please refer to the Dog Control Bylaw and Policy 2022 found at the bottom of this page.
