Waikato District Council is inviting residents to share their views on a proposed focused update to the Natural Reserve Management Plans (RMP) for the reserve currently referred to as Lorenzen Bay Reserve.
The update seeks to formally endorse the Waikokowai Development and Restoration Plan, a community-led initiative developed in partnership with iwi and local residents. As part of this process, the name Waikokowai Reserve has been suggested to reflect the cultural and environmental significance of the area.
“This reserve provides an important natural corridor between Lorenzen Bay Road and Greenslade Road,” says Matthew Villanueva, Reserve Planner. “We want to ensure the community is happy with the direction set for managing and developing the reserve, both now and into the future.”
Why It Matters
The plan supports ecological restoration, community involvement, and improved access.
It reflects a shared vision for the reserve’s future, including a potential renaming to Waikokowai.
Volunteers and residents will play a key role in bringing the plan to life. Learn more.
