Raahui Pookeka/Huntly community unites for workforce development event

Blair Keenan presenting about local economy
Last Thursday, the Genesis Energy Function Centre buzzing with excitement as over 20 businesses from Raahui Pookeka/Huntly and nearby areas came together for an event focused on workforce development. Hosted by the Waikato District Council’s Economic and Community Led Development and Strategic Planning teams, the night was all about teaming up and sharing ideas to make Raahui Pookeka/Huntly an even better place for everyone.

The event kicked off with an engaging presentation by Blair Keenan, a local economist from the Waikato Regional Council. His talk got everyone fired up and ready to dive into some interesting discussions.

Attendees were a great mix of big industry players and small business owners and leaders from social sector organisations all eager to share their thoughts and collaborate.  Dr. Melissa Hackell from the Waikato Regional Council brought in a fun twist with her “Rosebud” activity. This interactive exercise had everyone chatting about what makes Raahui Pookeka/Huntly awesome, exploring new opportunities, and identifying challenges to overcome.

Whether people were from a big or small business or the social sector, everyone got the chance to speak up and swap ideas. It was a real community effort, showing how important it is to have all voices at the table when talking about growth and development.

Thanks to Genesis Energy for sponsoring the venue and to the Waikato Regional Council for their partnership and continued support with the Raahui Pookeka/Huntly Socio-Economic Master Plan, working closely with the Economic and Community Led Development team.

This event was just the beginning of something special, highlighting how working together can truly make a difference in building a thriving Raahui Pookeka/Huntly.

The night wrapped up with everyone feeling inspired and ready to roll up their sleeves to help turn community aspirations into reality.
