Embrace muddy fun at the Dirty Dog Challenge this month

It’s that time of the year again when dog lovers from across the North Island come together for an event that’s as much about fun as it is about community spirit and supporting an important cause.

This month Hamilton City Council and Waikato District Council are set for the sixth annual Dirty Dog Challenge, New Zealand's only mud run for dogs. Join us for this exciting event on Saturday, 27 July at the Christian Youth Camp in Ngaaruawaahia.

We’re calling on all dog owners and enthusiasts to join us for a day of muddy fun. Whether you’re up for the 2.5km or the 6km challenge, there’s an adventure waiting for you and your furry friend. The event is open to dogs of all shapes and sizes, provided they are vaccinated, well socialised and in good health.

The Dirty Dog Challenge isn’t just about the joy of the run; it’s also a fantastic opportunity for people to enjoy a fun event with their dogs while supporting a significant cause. This event is a key fundraiser for our region’s dog desexing programmes. Thanks to the generous support we received last year, we raised an impressive $21,274, allowing us to offer more people subsidised costs for desexing their dogs. This, in turn, helps reduce the number of unwanted dogs in our community.

We’re grateful to our fantastic event sponsors, including Hill’s Pet Nutrition, eco planet, Pet One, Superior Pet Food Co, Ruffles Petwear, Waikato Canine Adventure Park, Sweet as Popcorn, NZ Drinks Ltd, Zealandia Pets, and WashBar, who are providing spot prizes and goodie bags filled with quality treats for both participants and their dogs.

The cost for one dog and one runner is $60, with an additional runner over the age of 8 able to join for $30. To secure your spot, make sure to register online ahead of the event.

Mark your calendars:
