As the swimming season comes to an end, and the Waikato District Council public pools close their gates, it was the dogs’ turn in the pool this past weekend.
Every April, the Animal Control team at Waikato District Council host their Pound Pups Pool Parties in Ngaaruawaahia and Tuakau, to raise money for animal rescue charities that help us find loving homes for our Pound dogs.
This year, more than 200 dogs dipped their paws in the water and raised more than $3200 for Fundraising for Impounded Dogs New Zealand and Country Retreat Animal Sanctuary.
“Waikato Pound Pups are delighted to be able to make this donation to Fundraising for Impounded Dogs and Country Retreat Animal Sanctuary,” says Animal Control Education and Engagement Officer Zoey Jackson.
“This contribution is a small gesture of our gratitude for their support, and a means to endorse their continued outstanding efforts."
While most of the day was rambunctious celebrations, the team ensured a safe and inclusive space for all dogs and their families. The final hour of each event was specially designated for small, shy, or less confident dogs, to make sure every pup could enjoy the water.
“The Pound Pup Pool Parties are always such a fantastic event, and for such a wonderful cause. Zoey and her team outdo themselves every year,” says Waikato district Mayor Jacqui Church.
“It’s always especially lovely to see the adoption dogs enjoying the water and socialising. We have so many beautiful dogs waiting for their forever homes.”
This is one of many events put on by Waikato Pound Pups and Animal Control. Next up is the Dirty Dog Challenge – a muddy fun run and obstacle course for those willing to take up the challenge alongside their furry friends.
