Get ready to put your best paw forward and get your pups out for breast cancer!

Waikato District Council’s Animal Control and Education team will be hosting their annual Pound Pups Pink events on 11 and 12 November, to fundraise for the Breast Cancer Foundation. 

“Breast Cancer is a cause that’s close to my heart,” says Animal Education and Engagement Officer, Zoey Jackson, who planned the events. 

“I wanted to create an annual event where dog lovers and their pups could come together to do something really special. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together to support such a worthy cause, and it’s great that the dogs have so much fun too!”

The weekend kicks off with the Pound Pups Pink Walk around scenic Lake Kainui. On Saturday 11 November, dog lovers and their four-legged friends will embark on a scenic walk around the lake, dressed up in their finest pink attire. As they soak in the beauty of Lake Kainui, they'll be making a meaningful contribution to breast cancer research and support.

The tail-wagging excitement continues on Sunday 12 November. The Animal Control team will be in the north of the Waikato District at the Pookeno Dog Park, where they will be hosting a morning of canine camaraderie at the Pound Pups Pink Playdate. Dogs will have the opportunity to play and socialise with their furry friends, dressed in their pink Sunday best. 

“It’s wonderful to see the community and our people coming together to fundraise for such an important cause,” says Waikato District Council Mayor, Jacqui Church.

“Zoey and her team have been running these events for five years, and they’ve been a huge success. Our Animal Control team are so impactful in our communities, both through the vital work they do every day, their animal education work in schools, and through their incredible events.”

A gold coin donation is kindly requested for attending the Pound Pups Pink events. All proceeds will be donated directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand.
