Work is under way on an upgrade to public toilets in Raglan after Government funding was secured this year.
Waikato District Council will use up to $868,000 from the Government’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund for the upgrade work.
Projects that fall under this funding package include new toilets at Cliff St and Joyce Petchell Park, new car parking spaces at Joyce Petchell Park and Stewart St, and new toilets at Ngarunui Beach.
Joyce Petchell Park
Planning work for the car park is well under way at Joyce Petchell Park and work will start once clearance from Heritage New Zealand has been obtained.
Work on the neighbouring Stewart St car parking spaces has started this month.
And the new toilet is due to be installed this week.
A new Exeloo is being put in at Joyce Petchell Park, replacing the current toilet.
Features include a four-pan unisex unit with a drinking fountain, baby changing table and dog bowl.
Temporary toilets are in place at Joyce Petchell Park while the new toilet is installed and work is expected to take about a week.
Cliff Street
Work is then scheduled to begin on a new toilet for Cliff St towards the end of November.
The current toilet will be demolished and a new four-pan Exeloo toilet will be installed in its place.
The toilet will be unisex and includes a baby changing table.
Due to the demolition required of an end-of-life facility, this piece of work is due to take about a month. Temporary toilets will be in place at the site during this work.
Council has worked closely with the Raglan Community Board during the process, and the look of these two new toilets will be organised by the community board.
They intend to use local artists to decorate them and ensure they fit in with the Raglan vibe.
Ngarunui Beach
Work is due to start on the toilets at Ngarunui Beach will begin in the new year after the busy summer season.
A concept plan has been developed that includes two extra toilets down at the beach and a revamp of the facilities down at the beach.
Feedback for this parcel of work has been sought from Iwi, Raglan Coastal Reserves Committee, the Raglan Surf Lifesaving Club and Raglan Community Board.
There is also work planned to improve the facilities up at the main beach car park next to the surf club.
