Waikato District Council staff have joined others around the country today in breaking all fashion rules and wearing their loudest shirts.
The cause? The Hearing House and the Southern Cochlear Implant Programme, who help deaf kids to listen and speak.
By staff wearing their loudest shirts, or super hero themed as is the case this year, Waikato District Council is supporting the great work these charities do and Waikato district young people who need the support of these organisations.
Staff have also raised over $500 for the organisations through their own donations.
This isn’t the first time Council staff get behind valuable causes. Each month staff donate to a different Waikato charity in exchange for wearing casual clothes on a Friday.
In the past two years, Council has donated to a wide range of organisations including the district’s foodbanks, Surf Lifesaving, Bellyful and North Waikato Plunket to name just a few.
This act of giving forms a culture at Council that everyone can be proud of, Chief Executive Gavin Ion says.
“It is also demonstrating to our communities that we care and will partner with them to get the best outcomes we can for our people. Donating to these organisations is also our ‘liveable, thriving and connected communities’ vision in action. We are a part of these communities and we want to give back. We want to see them succeed and we really enjoy partnering with these organisations which provide such a valuable service to our communities,” Mr Ion says.
