Ngaruawahia Fitness Trail open for use

Waikato District Mayor Allan Sanson tries the new fitness trail cycle strider
Waikato District’s first fitness trail featuring outdoor gym equipment was officially opened in Ngaruawahia last night (Thursday 5 April).

About 40 people, including Ngaruawahia High School students, turned up to mark the occasion and to be the first to try out the new equipment installed along the Waikato Esplanade.

Mayor Allan Sanson and Ngaruawahia Community Board member Wendy Diamond, who initiated and led the project, cut a ribbon to unveil the first station on the trail that stretches nearly a kilometre from the Lower Waikato Esplanade to the rear of St Paul’s Catholic School.

Costing nearly $60,000, the fitness trail has won funding support from the WEL Energy Trust, Waikato District Community Wellbeing Trust, Perry Group Ltd, the Ngaruawahia Community Board, and the Ngaruawahia Lions Club.

It features six fitness stations with outdoor gym equipment including a bench press, cycle strider, leg press, and sit-up bench.  A warm-up and stretching station serves as the start and finish of the trail.
