Mayor Allan Sanson has announced the appointment of Gavin Ion as Waikato District Council Chief Executive for a term of 5 years. “The Council has confirmed Gavin’s appointment following a highly competitive process involving executive recruiters Sheffield,” said Mayor Sanson.
“Gavin is very excited about leading our organisation through this period of sustained growth. He is particularly enthusiastic to pick up the challenge laid by Councillors to really focus our efforts on building strong, connected communities within our district,” he said.
Mr Ion said he was really fired up by the opportunities facing the Waikato District. “We’re now the third fastest growing district in the country. Over the last year we’ve continued to have robust business and job growth, and this is creating great opportunities to keep our people and attract new residents.”
“I have a great team around me and I am enthusiastic about what we can achieve together for our district,” said Mr Ion.
Gavin Ion has been Chief Executive at Waikato District Council since 2004.
