Community gives Glen Murray recycling service the big tick

Waikato District Council will continue its monthly recycling drop-off day service at Glen Murray following consultation with the community.

The service was introduced as a trial in 2016 following the closure of a recycling drop-off service run by a private company in Pukekohe.

Glen Murray monthly recycling drop-off days will be funded by a targeted rate, from community members who received consultation letters, of $57.27 from July 2018.

The result of last month’s consultation showed that 62% of respondents indicated that they wanted the service with a targeted rate, while 38% preferred the option of stopping the service.

The drop-off service at Glen Murray Hall will continue to be on the first Saturday of every month from 8.30am-12.30pm.

An earlier consultation in the Pukekawa and Onewhero areas resulted in the launch of a refuse and recycling weekly kerbside collection for residents in July.

The fact that the majority of Onewhero residents now receive a weekly refuse and recycling kerbside collection means that the monthly Onewhero recycling drop-off day will be stopped next month.

The last Onewhero drop-off day will be at Onewhero Rugby Club on 14 October from 8-30am-12 noon.

Meanwhile Council has put the exploration of options for a recycling drop-off facility in Tuakau on hold.

Due to the difficulty in finding an appropriate site, there is no certainty that this potential service will materialise.
