The first two of six ‘little free libraries’ for Huntly are bringing some outdoors Spring pleasure to the Kimihia Home and Hospital, and to the Huntly Friendship House.
They are part of a ‘placemaking’ project designed to make Huntly’s public spaces inviting and boost residents’ enjoyment of their town. Four more little libraries will be installed in the Huntly community in the coming weeks.
Waikato District Council, Huntly Friendship House and the Menzshed Huntly joined forces earlier this year to build the ‘little libraries’ as a companion project to another initiative to upgrade Garden Place with a giant circular seat under a tree in the square. The Huntly Community Board and Resene Paints Te Rapa also joined in to support the project.
Local artwork will feature on the little libraries. The artwork on the little library at Kimihia Home was created by Rebecca Tukiri with help from on the of the home’s residents, Cameron Tahakura.
