Pooch play areas in Tuakau: have your say

WDC Te Kauwhata 0108
Tuakau is a growing community with a lot of furry four-legged friends. There are currently 2589 dogs registered to residents in Tuakau and Waikato District Council appreciates the need to provide areas for these dogs to exercise.

Given this demand, Council is proposing to add Kowhai Reserve to the Dog Control Bylaw as an off-lead dog exercise area. It also plans to reintroduce Centennial Park, on the corner of Bollard Road and Park Avenue, to the bylaw as an off-lead dog exercise area following its removal in 2014/15.

“The park was removed because some members of the community suggested that the park was too close to a busy road, it was too small and also too close to a children’s play area,” says Animal Control Team Leader, Megan May. “However no other suitable areas were identified at the time to replace it. Since then, we’ve had an overwhelming level of interest and support to reinstate the park as an off-lead exercise area.”

“If Centennial Park is reinstated as an off-lead area, fencing of the children’s play area will occur.”

People can make a submission by entering it online at www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/sayit, or by downloading the feedback form on our website and sending it to by emailing consult@waidc.govt.nz or delivering it to any Council Office or library.
Submissions close on 22 September.

Maps of the proposed locations can be found at www.waikatodistrist.govt.nz/sayit.

“We want to know if these proposed changes are supported and will provide adequate areas for you to walk your dog off lead in Tuakau so we encourage people to make a submission.”
