Everyone loves inorganic collections because we get the chance to get rid of our junk but it really makes our streets look messy.
Waikato District Council’s new inorganic collection will mean your items will be collected from your property, so there will be no more lugging your unwanted household rubbish to the kerb.
Coming in early 2017, the way the service will operate will see streets and roads around the district looking much tidier. The different systems currently being run across the district will also be replaced with one consistent pick-up service for the entire district excluding Raglan.
Earlier this year Council announced the new collection will be via a phone in service similar to that run by Auckland Council and because inorganic is funded by rates, there is no charge to book.
You will need to ensure your inorganic complies with the 1m x 2m size, so items such as stoves, lawnmowers, corrugated iron and carpet will be able to be taken so long as they meet the size criteria. However, you can’t put items such as televisions, hazardous waste, garden waste, paint and gas cylinders out for collection.
The benefits of running a service where items are collected from your property will also mean recyclers won’t be able to drive around collecting all the “good parts” of your inorganic.
“We hope to come back to you over the coming months with more information, especially about when the new service will be available. At this stage the collection is likely to be in the New Year. In the meantime, please do not place anything outside your property for collection,” Acting General Manager Service Delivery, Chris Clarke says.
