New look Tuakau wheelie bin tags are here

Tuakau residents, your new look wheelie bin tags are here!

The district moved to a new way of refuse collection on 1 July this year with a goal of reducing waste sent to landfill. Waikato District Council is committed to providing Tuakau residents with an easy way of having their bin collected through the user pays approach, but realise it hasn’t been easy for some so far.

“While the tag system has been accepted by residents, the design has proven troublesome in recent months due to the ease in which they can blow away or be removed before the bin is collected by the contractor,” General Manager Service Delivery, Tim Harty says.

Council is now pleased to introduce a new tag which is similar to the adhesive luggage tags used in airports. To put your new tag on your wheelie bin, peel the black portion off the back to expose the adhesive and join the two black dots together around your wheelie bin handle. There is a video demonstrating this on Council’s Facebook page.

The tags will be available early next week from the Tuakau Council office and shortly following will be in all other stockiest. You will be able to use the current tags you have, or you can swap them at no cost with the new tags at Council’s Tuakau office.

Council would also like to take this opportunity to remind Tuakau residents to have their wheelie bin out by 7.30am on the morning of their collection.
