Work starts on new carpark for Hakarimata track users

In just a few weeks, users of the extremely popular Hakarimata track will have a new toilet facility, a bottle filling fountain along with improved parking facilities on Brownlee Ave.

Waikato District Council contractors have started on the installation of a toilet block in the carpark area on Brownlee Ave. This facility is a significant improvement on the port-a-loo currently located at the base of the popular walking track. At the same time the car park will be sealed and marked and on-street parking will be better defined and marked out as well. Once completed, there will be 16 spaces for cars to park off the road and 17 extra spaces along the road which haven’t been carparks before. Clear road marking will also be in place to help with navigating around the busy area. Work will be occurring over the next three weeks, so visitors to the track maybe inconvenienced.

“Council is very excited to be able to provide a better parking area and facilities for the growing numbers of people using this great track in our district,” General Manager Service Delivery, Tim Harty says.

In the meantime, for those who require parking when tackling the track there is alternative space available along Hakarimata Road. The public is asked to make sure their vehicles are locked and that they park safely to prevent disruption to the surrounding homes and businesses.
