Waikato District Council understands north Waikato residents’ concern and uncertainty about recycling options following Envirowaste Services’ decision to stop collection of recyclables at its Pukekohe Transfer Station.
Late last year EnviroWaste, owners and operators of the site, decided to stop the collection leaving north Waikato residents with fewer recycling options.
General Manager Service Delivery, Tim Harty said, “Waikato District Council was not made aware of the service ceasing prior to EnviroWaste’s media release. Council is now actively looking for a temporary alternative to offer residents.”
Council expects to confirm and communicate that temporary measure to residents over the coming weeks.
Until that time, residents are reminded of the recycling services currently in place and free to all Waikato residents. These include:
- Recycling drop off facilities at Hood’s Landing and Port Waikato
- Monthly recycling collections at:
- Pukekawa – 1st Monday of every month at the Pukekawa Village Hall on Clark and Denize Road at 7:30am
- Onewhero – 2nd Saturday of every month at the Onewhero Rugby Club on Hall Road at 8:30am
- Pokeno – 3rd Saturday of every month at the Pokeno Hall carpark at 8:30am.
These services will remain in place and unchanged until June 2016. They will however cease from 1 July when kerbside recycling will start for all residents currently on the yellow (EnviroWaste) pre-paid bag collection as per Council’s 2015-25 Long Term Plan.
More information about the 1 July changes will be provided to residents over the coming months.
