Ngaruawahia residents get ready. We’ve got a big piece of work coming up in July which could effect your water supply, as well as access to and from the town centre via Waipa Bridge.
That’s the bridge which runs across the Waipa River on Waingaro Road.
What’s happening?
Some sections of the town’s drinking water pipes under Waipa Bridge need replacing. To do this, we’ve scheduled five days of work with different activities starting Wednesday 22 July.
At some stage - likely between 10pm Saturday 25 July to 4am Sunday 26 July - we'll need to turn the water supply off to some houses. We'll be contacting the directly affected houses over the next couple of weeks.
We also need to manage traffic in the area so at various times the bridge will be down to one lane or closed with detours in place. Emergency services will have full access at all times during the project.
If the weather is too wet we’ll postpone it to the following weekend.
What you’ll need to do
Just in case there are unforeseen issues with the work we’d suggest you start collecting and storing clean drinking water, just enough for your family. We’ll be setting up an emergency water station in the area so if you run out you’ll be able to collect fresh drinking water but this is just a precaution.
During the work your water supply pressure might vary. Conserve water at all times. Don’t flush the loo unless you need to; limit showers, baths and clothes washing; don’t leave taps running and check they’re not dripping, just normal smart water habits.
