Waikato District Council will be issuing fire permits, but only on a case by case basis. Even though the district has had some rain, the ground and grass are still extremely dry and a fire risk.
Areas in the west of the district and the Mangatawhiri swamp area remain in a prohibited status due to the very dry peat.
